Dorchester Rappel Team

Picture
The Rappel Team has been apart of Scouting in Dorchester for more than fifteen years now. The team is a great place for likeminded individuals with a passion for rappelling to come together and learn from one another while exploring this great sport. Our team makes an active effort to support numerous camps held at Camp BEL throughout the year.

Safety is our first priority; it is a part of everything we do. We believe that rappelling provides an opportunity for youth and adults to develop their self-confidence and motor skills while also their ability to understand and manage risk as responsible leaders.

To highlight just a few of the camps this team supports, they include DIBC, DICC, and Genesis. Better yet, the team has aims to run its own clinic each year known as HAC. As a reflection of our continuous exploration, many members of the Rappel Team like to frequent local and distant rappel destinations from Rattlesnake to Ohio. As a testament to continuous learning, members have begun taking TSSA authorized training.

The team is structured in such a way that reflects the true spirit of team work: everyone is a member of the team. Those who have demonstrated their competencies through a formal test and their trustworthiness are awarded the responsibility of Rappel Master. These individuals work together in guiding the team forward.

Joining our Team

The team welcomes all members of Scouting and those who are interested in joining Scouting. To learn more about our program or to find out about an up-coming event, please send us a message at [email protected]. Our team welcomes individuals looking to participate at big events or more frequently. The best part, there is no cost to join and a ton of fun and learning to be had. If getting involved in Scouting is of interest but maybe not rappelling, check out the volunteer page for other great opportunities.

Importance of Safety

The program carried out by the Dorchester Rappel Team is founded on a culture of safety. We believe that safety is more than wearing the right equipment; indeed, that is just the beginning. Our program involves teaching everyone that risk assessments do not begin and end at the start of an outing but continue through to the end. An important attribute to the team is that safety is not the sole responsibility of one individual, everyone has an important role to play and has the duty to step up and speak up. If you have any questions about how safety is apart of the Dorchester Rappel Team, please feel free to contact us at [email protected].
